Lord, we need Your strength (July 22, 2021)

“Summon your power, God; show us your strength, our God, as you have done before.”  Psalm 68:28

“For we have no power to face this vast army that is attacking us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on You.”         2 Chronicles 20:12

This past week with a trip to the ER and three days in the hospital is somewhat of a blur.  Here is a summary of what was found out from various scans, tests and blood work:

  • The cancer is no longer stable, but has shown some growth as well as some spreading.
  • A blood clot was found in my stomach and I am now on blood thinners.
  • My liver (which in the past was stable) is now irritated because of the cancer.
  • I have a blockage in a bile duct that may require a stent to be inserted. We are monitoring the situation and I will have more labs early next week to determine whether or not I will need the stent procedure later next week.
  • I started a new chemotherapy that will hopefully bring some relief to my liver.

Thank you for continued prayers:

  • That my body would respond to the new chemotherapy. Please pray specifically against back and abdominal PAIN.
  • That perhaps the blockage would work itself out on its own.
  • That if I have the medical stent procedure next Friday, that it would be a success and rectify the blockage problem.
  • That Patrick and I would have ongoing wisdom and peace from the Lord as there are many twists and turns on this journey.

On an encouraging note, three of our pastors from our church came to pray for Patrick and me last week. They anointed me with oil to my forehead, as they prayed. What I found as an added bonus is that after you are anointed with fragrant oil you smell that oil throughout the day. From this, I was reminded of the presence of God. This visit also brought to me such peace and assurance and was a direct answer to my prayers for encouragement.  As always, God’s timing in all this was perfect — as it was just two days later that the ER storm hit.  So even though it was not fun going through the suffering, I had a heightened awareness of God presence.

Another blessing was that I had a very informative visit with the nutritionist who was able to give me some great ideas on how to get some more calories and protein into my diet.  Eating has become a real challenge so I am again encouraged to have been able to talk through some ways to get maximum nutritional value with the few foods that I seem able to tolerate.  That is a huge answer to prayer.  THANK YOU, LORD! And thank you for your prayers!

Please remember that we are praying for you.  Drop us a note and let us know how we can be praying for you.

Much love to you,

Debbie and Patrick

  1. Hello my dear Debbie,
So glad to hear from you and thank you for writing us this update. We are praying for your prayer requests and we trust God is in control.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7
Blessings my dear Debbie. In God we trust.
    With love,
    Jenny and Kenia

  5. Thank you for the post. You are ever in our prayers, and your family as well. I am really glad that you got some specific answers. You have to know what is going on before they can hake a plan to take care of it, and it sounds like you have some very good doctors. I also loved seeing the picture of you! What a special treat to see you playing the guitar. With much love, Lu Ann and Ed

  6. Thank you for this update and the special things to be praying about. You have been in my thoughts continually and it seems each scripture portion I read makes me think of you and your health and causes me to be pray for you and Patrick. Your reliance on the Lord is a powerful testimony to those you come in contact with and to those of us who know you but can’t be with you in person.

  10. Hallo Dear Debbie,

    Thank you for your update!

Yes, we are praying for you and your family. They too are going through a hard time.

Indeed we cannot fight this battle alone! O, how we need Jesus! I pray that His presence in you will give you strength and endurance!

By the way did you receive my latest mail? In which I was telling you that I too have cancer.

It started in my colon – I was operated on May 3rd and a piece of the colon was removed. But unfortunately it spread to my liver.

Had my first chemo yesterday, PTL all went well.

Feeling and knowing the presence and the Peace of the Lord!

“For me to live is Christ, and to dye is gain”!

With love from John & Edith.

  11. Oh Debbie, I cried when reading what your tests, scans and blood work revealed. We are grieving the hard news with you all, but also praying with you for your requests and for God’s merciful answers. Especially for no pain, or at least very good pain management so you are as comfortable as possible. I pray you are able to gain some weight back since getting help for that. And I hope your pastors return often to pray for you all. I’m also praying for God to work out being able to see your parents in person. I did hear something about the border opening soon. I’m sure they are aching to see you, Debbie. “We do not understand all this, O Lord, but we put our trust in You and Your loving care for Debbie, Patrick, Sarah and Kathryn. Hold each of them very close, dear Father.”

With our Love, Hugs and Prayers, Vicky & Gary
